Matthew 24:14

Dear Friends                                                                            January - February 2009

Who is Satan? / God is in Heaven!

We began our After School Program (ASC) in January after a two week break.  Glad to have all the children back spending the afternoons with us during the weekdays.  One day Tig (my co-worker) was telling a Bible story, when Wave one of the six year old child raised his hand and asked ‘Who is Satan?’, on that day the story telling session took a longer time as Tig explained to all of the children about Satan-the Fallen Angel.  I was encouraged to see the kids listened attentively as Tig explained and to know that these kids remember the Bible stories we tell them.  We know in God’s way these children will understand the Bible as their six year old mind permits them.

One day Toto and Wave (who attends our ASC) had an encounter with their friend in school who teased them by speaking ill of God.  Our faithful warriors for God (Toto and Wave) got fuming angry with this friend and said that God is in Heaven watching over all of us.  You have to be here to see their faces as they told us about the incident and that the gladness in their face that they were able to tell the friend that God is a Good God.

Our After School Program is encouraging to our ministry.  The children not only have the opportunity to hear about God on Sundays but everyday during the week as they spend the afternoons with us in our premises.  The conclusion is that it is time for Church everyday here in NLBC/CDC.

Tawan (New Believer)

Praise God for Tawan and her progress towards her walk back to God.  Thank you for those of you who are praying for her.  Tawan has a great enthusiasm and desire to know God.  Tawan and I meet on Saturdays to have Bible study.    We are learning together the Book of John.  It is amazing how God intervenes and help me explain the Bibles passages to Tawan in Thai.  As I read the Bible in Thai together with Tawan, I have improved in my Thai language and understanding of the Bible in Thai.  When you look at the Big Picture, this is how God works by using my Bible Knowledge to teach Tawan, as a result Tawan gets to know more about Jesus Christ and I improve in reading the Bible in Thai.  Isn’t this Amazing!

Please continue to pray for Tawan that she will have the courage to tell her family and neighbors that she is a Christian.  We were studying about the Samaritan woman in the Book of John, I told Tawan one day God will give her the courage to declare boldly about her faith in Jesus Christ in public.

Dear Friends                                                                            November - December 2008

Excitement compassed the air for me this year as a missionary in this village of Namkem.  It was a busy year and many blessings, miracles experienced in my life.  From learning the language/culture to seeing the Power of God’s Word in overcoming satan to having a wonderful and comfortable abode to seeing a new convert falling away and returning  to God’s Path to seeing the Gospel message shared to many in the village.  Doesn’t it look like a year filled with activities? I think so too. Praise God for seeing me through this year, I made it through because of the strength that comes from The Only Almighty God.

Christmas Carnival

The concept of the Wordless Book invented by Charles Spurgeon (a book filled with colors providing the readers with a visual cue to the meaning of the Gospel) was the evangelistic instrument used for our Christmas carnival to reached approximately 1,000 students.  A team of Volunteers from Bangkok, Thailand came to help us for this carnival.  A maze was constructed and each entry had the colors from the Wordless Book. Each entrance of the maze had a counselor to explain the meaning of the color.  Every student was given literatures that gave them the opportunity to read in details the meaning of the colors of the Wordless Book in their own time.  Out of the 1,000 students that participated, 300 made a profession of Faith. Praise God for the seeds that were planted from the two days of the Christmas Carnival at the Schools here in the village.  Thank you to all of you who have prayed and contributed financially to our Christmas Carnival.  God have used your abilities to hold the rope for us as we carried out the carnival. We hope that every student that was present for the carnival will know and understand the true meaning of Christmas. It was a Blessing to all of us here to have this great opportunity to share the True Meaning of Christmas to the people of NamKem.

October Camps

October was a month of Camps for NLBC/CDC; we had a total of two camps. The first week of October we had the Teenage Girls Camp, the third week we had the Vacation Bible School for the Kids.

Teenage Girls Camp

My Co-worker Tig and I conducted a Teenage Girls Camp for ages ranging from 13 – 16 years.  It was a three day camp, we taught the girls about the characteristic of several Women from the Bible to name a few, Eve, Ruth, Esther, and Mary etc.  We had a great time with the girls and the bonding was terrific.  Through this camp I believed that the girls had a good understanding of the characters of the Women of the Bible that was featured during the camp and that the Women in the Bible were not just a name to them but that they also have the knowledge of these Women’s characters too. The last day of the camp we had the girls to match their own characters with any one of the Women of the Bible; strangely no one picked Eve (hmm. I wonder why).

Vacation Bible School

The Staff of the Children Evangelism Fellowship from the Chiang Mai, Thailand Branch came to conduct a three day Children’s Camp.  It was three days of fun with games, songs and lessons from the Bible about Jonah.  We had a few new faces; we hope that through this camp it will draw theses children to come to our other events and doors will open for us to share the Gospel to them.  On the last day of the camp the Team gave away snacks as prizes to the children.  There was joy on the children’s faces to gain ownership of all the snacks.  I wonder how long it for every kid to finish all the snacks, in my opinion I believe it took that very day, because the kids here loves all kinds of snacks.

Christmas Event 2008

Christmas is around the corner, as a team we are planning all the festivity and gifts for the children/teenagers of Nam Kem.  The focus of our Christmas Event every year is on outreach by sharing the true meaning of Christmas and also to have the opportunity to spread the Gospel. This year our concentration will be towards the Youth and Children of the village.   Some of you played a part in this last year because you contributed financially in order for us to have our Christmas Event.  I hope you would like to do the same this year. If you have not been a part of contributing financially to our Christmas Event, you can this year.  If you are keen on contributing, please contact me via email at sally_k28@hotmail.com and I will let you know on how you can send the funds to us.  Let me Thank you for your kindness to all the Children/Teenagers of Nam Kem

MUSIC

Music has always been the heartbeat of NLBC/CDC. Everyone on the team loves music and this love for music extends to the children, teenagers and adults that come to our facility.  The last two months our events were centered on Music.

Youth Potential Development Program (YPOD) Music Camp

Late last year we developed a Music Program for teenagers.  This program attracted many of the teenagers from the nearby school.  Bao one of our new Believers of NLBC and a very talented Musician teaches the teenagers to play the instruments some of whom who have never held a musical instrument in their life. After about eight months since the launched of the program, twelve teenagers stayed faithful and are able to play the musical instruments.  The talents of these teenagers of the village were discovered on the grounds of CDC through this Music Program.  The teenagers learn to play and sing Christian Worships songs.

A Music Camp was organized for three days in July.  We took the teenagers to a beach resort, a first time for some of them to stay in a hotel ambience.  The team from NLBC/CDC was able to bond with these teenagers through the three day camp, we had the opportunity to share the Gospel to these teenagers, and we praise God for the profession of faith from 3 of the teenagers out of the twelve.  The camp also gave the teenagers an opportunity to be songwriters as we had a competition on the best song written and presented. It was amazing; they had only about two hours to prepare themselves and they did a great job.  Please pray for our Music Program, in that we can discover more talents in Baan Nem Kem and not only we can see the development of their musical talents but that these teenagers will also establish and develop a relationship with God.

South Norfolk Youth Symphonic Band

NLBC/CDC had the opportunity of having the South Norfolk Youth Symphonic Band to perform at our facility in August.  It was the first time our teenagers from the Music program performed before their family and fellow villagers.  It was full house; many of the villagers came to some it was the first time hearing and seeing a symphonic orchestra perform.  This event was an encouragement to some of the members of the orchestra who are Christians because it was not only a trip to perform but also a Mission trip to see and understand God’s mission field.  Praise God for the Music Program and Musical event, we will continue to keep the beat going and that music will always be the heart of New Light Baptist Church/Community Development Center (NLBC/CDC).

Tawan (New Believer of NLBC)

In my previous newsletter I requested prayer for Tawan one of our New Believers who have drifted away from God.  There were days the enthusiasm builds up to coming back to God and then it goes down.  I am keeping close contact with Tawan; please pray that Tawan will put complete trust in God and that her family will understand her desire of being a Christian rather than a Buddhist.

After School Care (New Term)

On May 20 we started our new term for the After School Care.  Enrollment included eight new children and five from the previous term.  We praise God for these children as they spend time with us at our facility after their regular school hours and it is a great joy to me as I spend my afternoons with these children, I get to build relationships with these children and to love them too.  The newly enrolled children are new to everything that we do in our learning centers. To the new children saying Grace for the food is a new thing to them, they would follow the action of the children from the previous term.  After six weeks, they know how to close their eyes and bow their heads in prayer.  Please pray for Tig (my co-worker) and I as we spend time with these children, besides helping them in their school work, that we can also impart Christian values to them.

New Believers of Our Church

Please pray for the new Believers who attend our church.  Some of them have already fallen into satan’s temptation and deceit.  Please keep in prayer Bao, Tham, Dao and special prayer for Tawan.  A month ago we had Bible studies with Tawan but just a few weeks ago we do not know if Tawan is possessed or oppressed by satan.  Tawan came to our office on a week day with multiple personalities in her but not the soft- spoken Tawan that we know.  I will not go into details of the scenario but the entire experience showed and strengthen me about the power of God Words and God’s Power over satan.  My faith is stronger and the need to always stay close to God and the Bible became so evident.  We have been praying and fasting as a team, the evils spirits have left Tawan but she is still not ready to choose the One and Only True God in her life, when the option was given to her between God and the deceit of satan, she said that she is not ready yet and to give her time.  Please pray for Tawan as she seeks for answers.  I am keeping in touch with Tewan by visiting her once a week, I know that victory is coming and in God’s Time Tawan will choose the Almighty God.  Tawan needs a friend now and I have decided to be that friend to her.  Please pray for me in the area of God’s Protection from satan and his wicked ways, for wisdom on how to encourage Tawan.

Thank God for the work you have in Thailand in which we can be a part of.  Thank God also that you are also enjoying yourself with the children who seemed to be very carefree and contented.  Thank God that they are able to learn about God and the English lessons too.  God bless you.  Doris, LBC
