    IT’S APPROVED!

Glory to God the Highest for HIS MARVELOUS WORK!  I have been praying since I arrived to Thailand a year ago about the approval for my Visa/Work Permit, the prayer was answered in March 2008.   God is Good all the time and All the time God is Good.  The paper work to process the Visa took about three months with two trips to Bangkok.  This means that I can stay in Thailand on the basis that I renew my Visa yearly.  Thank you for praying with me about this request and Thank God for the answered prayer.

    FRIEND DAY

New Light Baptist Church celebrated Resurrection Sunday March 23; we encouraged our regulars that attend our Sunday afternoon worship to bring a friend.  We had 31 in attendance and two profession of faith (Praise God).  Please view photographs of our Resurrection Sunday Worship at my blog.

    VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS)

We had our Vacation Bible School from April 7 to 11.  The theme was ‘Exploration of the Earth cum God’s Creation’.   There was an average of 25 children in attendance each day.  Each day was filled with activities indoor and outdoor.  The indoor program included Bible story time, music, English and Art Centers.  The outdoor activities included a hands-on discovery of God’s creation.  We Praise God for the opportunity to show and teach the children about God’s creation.  We had some new faces for VBS and these children have started to come for our Sunday Children’s Church.

Praise God for all the joyous moments that I experience in the ministry here, the time spent with the children and teenagers are memorable.  Every moment spent is a moment that allows me to direct them to God.

‘Countdown 2008’ in Baan Nam Kem

I thought it was going to be a quiet ushering of 2008 for me instead I was woken up by the thundering sounds of fireworks.  I felt like I was in Times Square of New York City.  I was told the next day that ushering the New Year is a family event in the village of Baan Nam Kem.  Next year I will prepare myself with fireworks and join in the Countdown by the Andaman Sea.

    Free Mobile Clinic

New Light Baptist Church/CDC hosted a Medical Mission Team from Sydney, Australia who conducted free mobile clinic to the people living in the village.  The team contributed medical services and supplies from February 14 to February 16, 2008.  Each day approximately 100 people consisting of Burmese and Thais came to see the doctors and to get medication.  Many had the opportunity to hear the Gospel.  We praise God for the Medical Mission Team, and for doors opened to the village to spread the Gospel through this event.

    Housing Construction

God promised and God gave bountifully.  I give God the honor and glory because this is all only possible because in Luke 1:37 the Bible says ‘For with God nothing shall be impossible’.  I want to say Thank you to those who gave not only once but many times for the housing construction.  The house is on its last phrase of construction and I will be able to move in soon.  I am having ‘goose bumps’ as I see God’s miracle in my life.  I trusted God and God showed me the result of what trusting can do in my daily walk as a Christian.

Thank you again to all of you who prayed and gave financially, there are so many of you this newsletter will go to several pages if I were to write everyone’s name.  You know who you are and I say THANK YOU from my heart and for being a part of God’s miracle in my life.

Greetings and a Blessed 2008 to you.

    Rain Clouds Gone!

The rain clouds are gone that means it is the dry season for the village of Baan Nam Kem. I was outside on a beautiful day and gazed up to the sky, it was blue with no clouds at sight that was a WOW! moment for me.  I decided to do the same that night, I saw the sight of the canopy of stars glittering, and that was another WOW! moment for me.  It was like a message from the sky, these verses from Psalm 19 came to mind.

Verse 1 – ‘The Heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament sheweth His

                     Handiwork.’

Verse 2 – ‘Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth

                     Knowledge.’

    Praise God His Marvelous Handiwork!

    Christmas in Baan Nam Kem

Two events were planned for Christmas, the first held on December 22nd was for the children that attend our Sunday Church, and the second held on December 28th   was a village wide celebration.  The Sunday Church event was overwhelming; we were expecting 100 children instead 140 children attended.  For some of the children it was their first time stepping into our facility we hope it will not be their last.  Thank you to many of you who gave financially for this event.  We were able to purchase gifts and prepare a delicious meal for the children.    You have to be here to see the faces of the children as they opened their gifts.  Your contribution has given the children new sets of toys this year, Thank you for your kindness!

The second Christmas event on 28 December went very well too and we give God the Honor and Glory for His watch care over the event.  The villagers came and had an opportunity to listen to the Gospel from our guest speaker. We saw many new faces and hope that this event opens door for us to reach out to our first time visitors to New Light Baptist Church/CDC. Please pray as the seed is planted the Word of God will continue to speak the hearts of the village.

    Good-bye to 2007

I end the year 2007 with joy, peace and happiness, because I surrendered the whole year’s journey to God and as I did that I experienced so many victories that caused my faith in God to grow tremendously.  Even my trials were a blessing to me, because I learned through the process of those trials what God was teaching me. I say thank you to my Almighty God for a great 2007 and look forward to my new journey for 2008.

    After School Care (ASC)

Picture this in your mind 4 to 6 year olds without their front teeth in school uniforms that the sight of our After School Care Program/Ministry of New Light Baptist Church/CDC. The ASC program opens doors for us to reach the pre-school age group of the village with the Gospel.  Every Monday to Friday during the school term these children will come to our facility and spend the afternoon with us between 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm.  The children will be in different learning centers - English, Mathematics and Art, the last session is where we tell Bible stories. Through this ASC program, many of the children are regulars for our Children’s Church on Sundays.  We had an end of the term concert in September where the children presented a skit on Moses and the Israelites crossing the Red Sea and a song presentation of ‘God is so Great’ in English and Thai.  Meg, who is six years old, was given the role of Moses for the skit since then he has shown leadership qualities and has become our prayer warrior for our Children’s Church.   If you are here you will have tears of joy in your eyes as you see Meg pray with both his hands covering his eyes as he prays.  It is my prayer that we can reach out to these children with the Gospel at an early age which will lead them to the right way of life.

    Where is Home Now?

I took a trip back to Singapore in October to renew my visa, during my stay in Singapore, the question of where is home crossed my mind.  Ever since I quit from my logistics position ten years ago and surrendered to serving God, I moved twice in ten years to new locations.  The village of Baan Nam Kem is my second move, and I know for now this is home to me. I do miss my family and friends living overseas as I stay here in the village but thanks to technology they are all minutes away.    If you are wondering is serving God an adventure, be rest assured base on my life-experiences it is an adventure and along with it comes moments of trials and testing. There are days I fail the testing and have to seek God for help to get myself on par again.  The experiences stay in my heart and create an imprint in my life.  The answer to my question where is home? – ‘What is Baan Nam Kem’.

    ‘Blow Wind Blow’

The rain poured down from the sky, the strong winds swayed the trees to and fro are the sight of Baan Nam Kem as the village experiences the monsoon season. On nights when it rains heavily accompanied with the strong winds, I would whisper a prayer to God that the winds will not blow the roof off, Praise God till today the roof is intact.  One night the electricity was off due to the rain, and in the still of the night I heard a loud sound and was told in the morning that it was the sound of the waves from the Andaman Sea hitting the banks of the shore.  Praise God for His bountiful protection over me.

    Thai Language Study

Language study is going well; I am able to read simple Thai words.  My next task is to construct these words into sentences with the right ‘Thai grammar’.  I know that I reached thus far only because of the Grace and Strength of God, and will continue to be reliant on God’s wisdom to be proficient in the language.

Youth Ministry of New Light Baptist Church

    Badminton & Ping Pong Tournament

We had our first sports activity and the response was overwhelming from the teenagers of the village.  On the final day of the tournament, the parents of the teenagers attended to watch their children participate in the games.  At the end of the game, before the prize-giving ceremony, Missionary Jason Goh shared the Gospel Message to the parents and participants.  The seeds were sown and we look forward to God’s mighty Hands watering the hearts of the parents and teenagers.  Ever since the tournament some of the teenagers have become regulars for our youth activities, for that we Praise God!

    Move-in Day

It was at the break of dawn of May 29 that I said my good-byes to my mother and siblings, and headed out for the airport to take my flight to Phuket and there on to the village of Baan Namkem.  I thought of Abraham in Genesis 12:1-2 where the Lord said to Abram ‘…Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from they father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing…’  The faith that Abraham had is an example of faith I want to have as I settle in the mission field, and pray that God will use me as His instrument to serve the Name of Jesus Christ and to give God the Father the honor and glory that is due to the Almighty only.

It is a month since I moved here and have settled in my temporary living area.  I know that it is God that had given the peace in my heart even though I had some qualms about living in a village.  The verse in Philippians 4:7 became my source of strength.

‘And the peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’

    Assignments from the Lieutenant -General

Missionary Jason Goh who heads the ministries of New Light Baptist Church and the Community Development Center enlighten my responsibilities to me.  I will work together with Thai missionary Lek in the Youth Ministry and will teach English to students from the local schools. Please pray with me that I will fulfill these responsibilities with God’s strength and with diligence.

    Thai Language Study

I started my Thai Language study about three weeks ago, I am glad to say my teacher Ms Tig who is the local missionary serving together with me is still my teacher.  It is a challenge for me to learn this language and it does take patience for the one teaching the language, Thank you Tig for not giving up on me yet.  Learning the language reminded me of my Beginners Greek Class with Mr. Bemarkt at Baptist Bible College, Springfield Missouri. The knowledge of basic Greek allows me to understand the Thai language better, now I know why God directed me take Greek when I was in Baptist Bible College,

    Deputation

‘World-Traveler’ is the title designated to me by my friends since I started my deputation.  I saw myself during the month of March to April as a World-Traveler indeed as I traveled to the other side of the globe to America the land of dreams to raise support.  I visited three States, New Jersey, Missouri and Texas.

Little did I know that when the plane landed at the Newark airport that it was the coldest day the region had experienced after a period of good weather.  Yes it was burr, all the way from the airport to my cousin’s home.

During my stay in the three States I was able to share about the ministry in the village of Baan Nam Kem, Thailand and about God’s call for me to be a missionary.

I like to thank all the people who took good care of me when I visited the three States.  I took this trip by faith and God so graciously took care of everything for me.  My experience of God supplying my needs brought to mind of Philippians 4:15-19 where Paul thanked the Philippians for taking care of him.

‘Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving but ye only.

For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

Not because I desire a gift but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

But I have all, and abound: I am full having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God.

But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.’

Special thanks to my Cousins in New Jersey, The Bemarkt Family in Missouri and Barbara in Texas for opening their homes to me.  To all of you whom I love and cherish, thank you for your hospitality, I wish I could thank everyone by name; it will lead to a very long Newsletter.  You know who you are and I appreciate it dearly.

    Reaching & Touching Lives

‘Bear ye one another’s burden, and so fulfil the law of Christ.’

     Galatians 6:2

“God never moves without purpose or plan”, this is the lyrics from the song Rejoice in the Lord, and that was what I had experienced during my stay here in Singapore for the past four months.  It was God’s timing for me to be here in Singapore to help several of my friends who had experienced sadness and difficult moments in their lives.

I thank God that He used me as an instrument to uphold my friends during their times of need.  Prayer was the most significant source of strength that prevailed, and I give God the honor and glory as His Name was magnified during those times.  I prayed for deliverance for my friends and saw the Mighty Hands of God worked as prayers were answered.

In the process of helping my friends, I reflected upon God’s Unconditional love for us in that God still love us no matter how wretched  we are as human beings, to give us our Savior Jesus Christ to died for our sins and to give us an eternal hope.

Rejoice in the Lord He makes no mistakes,

He knoweth the path that I take.

And when I am tried and purified,

I shall come forth as gold.”

I learned that when I am Reaching and Touching Lives, to do it unconditionally and at the end of the day to give God the honor and Glory for using me.  To the friends I have helped Thank you for allowing me to be there for you during your time of need.

    Pearl of the Orient

Missionaries on deputation have privileges of not only traveling to the unknown countries but also to the known countries.  My deputation journey took me to one of such known country the ‘Pearl of the Orient’ a.k.a. Hong Kong.

Pastor Mike Tester of Island Baptist Church, Hong Kong invited me to attend their Missions Conference from November 8 to 12, 2006.  The theme of the conference was ‘For Such a Time as This’ Esther 4:14.  The theme brought to my thoughts of Esther’s heart as she answered the challenge to help the Jews of Shushan (Esther 4:16). This shows us that God is never limited in His resources, and that God uses anyone that will answer to His Call.

I was very blessed during my stay in Hong Kong, and to be apart of Island Baptist Church’s Missions Conference. I have made acquaintances with many new friends, some of them being my own fellow Singaporeans living in Hong Kong.  Thank you, Pastor & Mrs. Tester and members of Island Baptist Church, Hong Kong for your hospitality to me.

    Local Churches

I had the privilege of presenting my passion for the unreachables of Thailand to three local churches in Singapore.  Thank you to Tabernacle Baptist, Lighthouse Baptist and Heritage Baptist Church and hope that you will be partners with me in Reaching the Unreachables of Thailand

    Humid Christmas

Christmas rings these to my school of thoughts, The Road to Bethlehem=Jesus Christ when You were Born = From the Manger to the Cross = Why did Jesus Christ Die? It answers the reason of God’s Unconditional Loves for us and that God had given to us a Savior to Redeem us from our sins.

    His Hands

‘A Baby’s hands, so small and delicate,

Holding tightly to His mother’s finger

A Carpenter’s hands, callused and strong,

Doing the work they have been given to do

A Savior’s Hands, wounded yet forgiving-

Reaching out to us in LOVE’

     – Excerpt of a Christmas card

Christmas this year is not cold and snowy for me unlike my previous years instead it is warm and humid.  It is wonderful to be home with family this Christmas. To everyone I love living in the States I miss spending Christmas with you and love you. You are in my thoughts as I celebrate this wonderful time of year from the other side of the globe.

Have a Blessed Christmas and A Great 2007!
